Who is Dexter?
Dexter, as you can see by our logo, is the dog behind the sauce. The story goes… one warm summers night, while we were enjoying a beer in the backyard, Dexter, a small puppy at the time, disappears into the night nowhere to be seen. A search party gathers looking for our lost puppy. Hours passed and still no sign until we hear a faint bark in the distance. We follow the bark and sure enough we find Dexter, and what did Dexter have in his mouth? A chilli of course!
That’s an absolute lie, would have been perfect though.
Dexter is not only our mascot but an integral part of our team as he protects our chilli sauce supplies from intruders day and night.
The Scoville Scale was originally developed by Wilbur Scoville. This test was created as a way to determine the heat of a large range of chilli.
The way in which this scale works is if a chilli rates at 10,000 Scoville Heat Units, then the oil obtained from the extract must be diluted 10,000 times before the heat is dissipated.
In essence, this test measures the amount of capsaicin in each chilli as this is the natural chemical that makes your tongue, throat burn and your body sweat.
